Gary Maunahoolako Hooper, 76, of Honalo, died Feb. 7, 2022, at Kona Community Hospital. Born June 29, 1945 in Kealakekua, he was a retired heavy equipment operator for Keauhou Kona Country Club and a U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran.

He is survived by daughters, Melissa (Carl) Pond, Heather (Jackson Cagampang-Paahana) Hooper all of Honalo; brother, William (Momi) Hooper of Puuanahulu; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous hanai-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Susan Kiyojima
Susan Masako Kiyojima, 77, of Hilo, died Feb. 12, 2022, at Life Care Center of Hilo. Born Nov. 25, 1944, in Hilo, she was a retired clerk for the state at Waiakea High School in Hilo.
Private services held. No flowers. No Koden (monetary offerings).
She is survived by husband, Thomas Kiyojima of Hilo; sons, Dave (Terri Lyn Ohama-Kiyojima) Kiyojima of Pukalani (Maui), Jason Kiyojima of Oahu and Mark (Therese) Kiyojima of Las Vegas; brother, Willy Toshi Matsubara of California; two grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Roy Torioka
Roy Yoshimitsu Torioka, 56, of Holualoa, died Feb. 24, 2022 at his residence. Born March 29, 1965, in Hawaii, he was an auto mechanic for Hawaiian Telcom, State Auto Parts and the County of Hawaii and a member of Daifukuji Soto Mission and Electrician’s Union IBEW 1357.
Private services. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday April 2nd, 2022 at Yano Hall in Captain Cook at 5:00pm.
He is survived by his sons, Ryan Torres-Torioka of Aiea, Oahu and Royce Torres-Torioka of Holualoa; daughter, Mikyla Yanagi-Torioka of Kealakekua; brother, Jay Torioka of Holualoa; sister, Cynthia Thomas of California; one niece; one granddaughter; and numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Joanne Christine Spinelli, 53, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 24, 2022 at Kona Community Hospital. Born June 15, 1968, in Kealakekua, she was a clerical clerk for Hawaiian Properties Co.

Steven “Uncle Steve” Gregory Abreu, 80, of Kailua-Kona, died Feb. 27, 2022, at Kona Community Hospital. Born July 7, 1941 in Eleele, Kauai, he was a retired carpenter, fisherman, waterman, a former member of Kai ‘Opua Canoe Club and Waikiki Beachboy.
A paddle out ash scattering will be held 9:30 a.m. Sunday, March 27 at La’aloa (White Sands Beach). Celebration of life to follow.
He is survived by daughter, Stephanie Robinson-Boisse of California; d annumerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Adam Krull
Adam Richard Krull, 68, of Papaikou, died Feb. 19, 2022, in Hawaii. He was retired and volunteered clearing and cleaning of grounds at Hakalau School, as well as at St. Joseph Catholic Church, and was a member of Kamana Senior Center in Hilo, creating holiday decorations for the Hilo Medical Extended Day Care.
